San Jacinto College

Pasadena, Texas

Over 2500 cubic meters of timber - equivalent in volume to an Olympic-size swimming pool - were shipped by train to Texas to assemble the San Jacinto College Anderson-Ball Classroom 122,000 sq.ft. building. Rail transport was selected for its lower carbon footprint. The 3-storey building is dedicated to engineering, mathematics, College Preparatory, and early high school learning students. Glulam beams spaning 12 meters (40 feet) rest on double-height columns forming the 2-storey-high main lobby.
