620 Saint-Paul
Montréal, Québec
Located in the very heart of Old Montreal, the building brings together an existing building and a new construction. The original façade on the street still stands, housing commercial spaces. Above, a contemporary addition in the form of a massive black volume shelters office spaces. The upper façade being all glazed, the wood structure, left completely exposed, is visible from the street. The framework is designed with a concern for elegance and a particular attention to hide steel parts, except for braced frame pins. Red cedar tongues and dowels are used to cover plates and steel dowels.
